Costa Blanca
Altea
Altea, in the Marina Baixa region, is situated in one of the most stunning bays on the Costa Blanca. Situated 50km from Alicante and just 10km from Benidorm on top of a hill protected from the winds by the mountains, this town is ideally placed to enjoy temperate weather and spectacular views.
The town is well worth exploring for its whitewashed buildings, winding roads and its blue domed church church of the Virgen del Consuelo. The Virgin del Consuelo (Our Lady of Solace) church dates back to the turn of the century, and with its elaborate decoration and blue dome decorated with ceramic tiles, it is instantly recognisable from many post cards of the Costa Blanca.
There are also many shops, art galleries and restaurants to enjoy as you meander around exploring the town. When you reach the highest point of the town, the reward for a fairly long climb is the magnificent view of the Altea Bay and the Sierra Bernia mountains. It is possible to take in the view whilst enjoying a meal or a drink in one of the hostelries or restaurants in the attractive plaza.
To reach Altea it is possible to take the N332 carretera which runs the entire length of the coast connecting Altea, Alicante and Valencia or take the A7 motorway.
