Benalmádena

If you were thinking of buying a property in Benalmádena, you first have to decide which of the 3 distinct districts you would like to chose: Benalmádena Pueblo, Arroyo de la Miel or the Benalmádena Costa, home to the award-winning marina.

Benalmádena has 13 beaches covering 9 kilometres including; Malapesquera, Torrevieja, Torrequebrada, Las Yucas, Las Viborillas, Arroyo Hondo, Torremuelle, La Perla, La Morera, Tajo de la Soga, Santa Ana, Bil Bil andArroyo de la Miel. The beaches are a mixture of manmade, golden sand and shingle - all are well-maintained and clean.

A diverse array of facilities is available on the beaches of this bustling coastal town, ranging from water sports, first aid, disabled facilities, parasols, sun-beds and of course the ubiquitous bars and restaurants. On Santa Ana beach there is also a nautical club, showers, public telephones and is easily accessible by car and bus.

There is more to the great conurbation of Benalmádena sprawling midway between Málaga and Torremolinos than first meets the eye. It's where actor Antonio Banderas comes from, and he and Melanie Griffith often visit Benalmádena's attractive marina.

Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Greeks, Romans, Visigoths and Arabs all passed left their mark on the area, the Romans and Moors in particular having a noticeable effect on its architecture. The Catholic Kings, Ferdinand and Isabel, also established a defence base there.

If you are after a game of golf in Benalmádena, there is always the Torrequebrada Golf Course which re-opened in 1994. The golf course can be found situated between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains with the large number of lakes and strategic placed bunkers giving every hole a different experience.

Benalmádena Pueblo
The original heart of Benalmádena remains as a typical Andaluz village in the foothills of the mountains which sweep down to the shore. It covers an area of 26.58 km2 and has an average height of 280 metres above sea level. The narrow, flower-filled streets hold plenty of traces of the former civilisations which used to exist in the area. This picturesque village and its coastline are eminently suitable for tourism, with a population of over 60,000 people at the height of the season.
